Gerda Hasselfeldt

President of the German Red Cross (DRK e.V.)

Gerda Hasselfeldt holds a graduate degree (Diplom) in economics and, since 1 December 2017, she has been President of the German Red Cross. Born on 7 July 1950 in Straubing, Gerda Hasselfeldt is also a former federal minister and former member of the Bundestag – in addition to being the first female president of the DRK. From 1989 to 1991, she was Federal Minister for Regional Planning, Building and Urban Development and from 1991 to 1992, she was Federal Minister of Health.

From 2005 to 2011, she held the office of Vice President of the Bundestag, of which she was a member from 1987 until the federal elections of autumn 2017. Most recently, Hasselfeldt was Chairwoman of the CSU regional parliamentary party group in the Bundestag.

Gerda Hasselfeldt has been a member of the Council for Sustainable Development since January 2020.
