Strategy
In April 2002, the German government adopted the national sustainability strategy. The results of consultation with social groups and the proposals of the Council for Sustainable Development have been incorporated into this document. You will find more detailed information in our section Strategy 2002.
In 2004, the Federal government will report on the progress of sustainable development policy and will review the statistical achievements of the 21 targets and indicators which are designed to make sustainability quantifiable. The Council contributes to the progress report with a chapter on sustainability and society based on a stakeholder dialogue. Please find more information under Strategy 2004.
The Federal Governmant describes in its "Wegweiser Nachhaltigkeit 2005" the state of the art of its sustainabiliy policy on national and international level. The German Council for Sustainable development has contributed two chapters to this document. Read more about it in Landmark Sustainability 2005.
The 2006 indicator report was compiled by the Federal Statistical Office on behalf of the federal government for the first time.
Chancellor Angela Merkel laid out the objectives of the German government with respect to the further development of the National Strategy for Sustainability in 2008. Climate and energy, raw materials and demographic change are central topics, the Chancellor declared.
All interested citizens are called on to get involved, to contribute their ideas and proposals for the further development of the National Strategy for Sustainability. All comments should be based on the consultation paper.
