Prof. Dr Fatma Deniz is currently Vice President for Digitalisation and Sustainability at the Technische Universität Berlin; she will take over as President in April 2026.
As a computer scientist, her work combines core neuroscientific research with questions of artificial intelligence and data science. She is committed to sustainable digital infrastructures, responsible AI and diversity in science. Before moving to Berlin, she worked as a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, and secured high-level third-party funding from sources including the European Research Council (ERC), the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the US National Science Foundation.
Her approach aligns technological decisions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She believes digitalisation and climate protection have an interrelated role to play in the transition – with a view to resilient infrastructures, reliable framework conditions and long-term innovation and competitiveness in the European context.
Prof. Dr Fatma Deniz was appointed to the German Council for Sustainable Development in January 2026.
