Vice President German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) – Friends of the Earth Germany; Co-founder of kuyua

Dr Myriam Rapior, born in Bonn in 1996, has been Vice President of the German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) since 2022. She is also co-founder of kuyua, an AI app that analyses corporate and supply chain risks to nature and the climate and suggests real-world measures for biodiversity management.

Until 2025, Rapior also served as Biodiversity Officer at the University of Hamburg. She holds a PhD in sustainable supply chains, with a particular focus on human rights in global value chains and large-firm biodiversity protection.

In 2022, Rapior was awarded the German Environmental Prize for her work in the Future Commission on Agriculture and was appointed to the German Council for Sustainable Development in 2023.

Let’s get to it: What does sustainability mean to you? What do you associate with the term?

Dr Myriam Rapior: Sustainability means harmony between people, nature and animals.

What is your personal priority in your work as part of the Council for Sustainable Development?

As part of the RNE, I want to make my enthusiasm for environmental sustainability felt and strive for change in the economy and society. Protecting both the climate and biodiversity takes top priority here.

In the context of sustainability, what do you believe will pose the greatest challenge in the coming years?

The greatest challenge will be learning to function within planetary boundaries. We need to transform each and every economic process at play to minimise their impact on nature and ensure the economy operates in harmony with the environment. This also includes reducing global social inequality.
