Born in 1944, graduated economist, married, two children

After finishing school in Heidelberg, Angelika Zahrnt studied economics in Heidelberg, Vienna and Innsbruck. She graduated and finished her Ph.D. in Heidelberg. After a short period as scientific assistant, she received further educational training as system analyst. She assisted in establishing information systems at Siemens and at the Munich department for Urban Development. Finally, she worked as consultant at the Department for Regional Planning of the Chancellery for the State of Hesse.

Due to her different opinion on the policy of economic growth, and because of her growing family, Angelika Zahrnt left the Chancellery of State, and has been working as volunteer and freelancer ever since. She is politically committed to the feminist movement as well as to local politics. Scientific assistant at the Freiburg Eco-Institute and for the BUND. She has been vice-president of the BUND since 1990, and president from 1998 until 2007. Since April 2001 Angelika Zahrnt is member of the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE). Since 2008 she is the honorary president of the BUND.
