CV

On 3 December 1935, Hubert Weinzierl was born in Ingolstadt to the entrepreneur Paul Weinzierl and Thekla Weinzierl, neé Waldherr.

After attending grammar school in Ingolstadt, he studied forestry at the University of Munich (graduation in 1958). Trainee at the Bavarian Government Forest Administration. Studied practical farming, has been professional entrepreneur, and has worked as farmer, fish farmer and graduate in forestry ever since.

As activist of the nature protection movement since 1953, Hubert Weinzierl is member of numerous German nature protection organisation committees (appointed to the presiding committee of the German Registered Ring for the Protection of Nature in 1964, voluntary agent of government for nature protection in Lower Bavaria from 1965-1972). From 1964 until 1974, he travelled to all continents in order to study problems of nature protection.

Has been chairperson of the Registered Association for the Protection of Nature in Bavaria (BN) since 1969. Special commissioner of the German Registered Ring for the Protection of Nature, for organising the European Year of Nature in 1970. Co-founder of the Ecology Group. Chairperson of the Registered Association for Environment and Nature Protection in Germany (BUND) from 1983 until 1998. Attended the Rio Earth Summit as member of the German delegation in 1992. Since 2000, president of the German Registered Ring for the Protection of Nature.

Extensive work as journalist; published more than 40 books on nature protection and environmental policy, as well as numerous specialist essays, radio and television programmes between 1960 and 2007. Hubert Weinzierl also published several volumes of poetry.

Hubert Weinzierl is member of various advisory boards, among them the Broadcasting Council, the Senior Advisory Board for Nature Protection of Bavaria, and is member of the presiding committee of the Bavarian Academy for Nature Protection. Since April 2001 he is member of the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE)

Together with his wife, Roman-Catholic theologian Beate Seitz-Weinzierl, Hubert Weinzierl lives on his farm Schloß Wiesenfelden in the Bavarian Forest.
